Sadly, early Sunday morning
(October 24th), an unexplained automobile accident caused Club 21 to
catch fire and burn to the ground. There is nothing left but ashes and
lots of memories. Club 21 is now closed after 117 years. The building
did not have fire insurance and since the vehicles involved in the
accident at this time seem to be un-insured and abandoned, there are no
funds to rebuild. There is talk of re-building the dancehall due to the
outpouring of support from our Central Texas neighbors.

Our History |

The front part of Club 21 was built in 1893. Nineteen years later, a basketball gym and dance hall, the same place I might add, was later added in 1912. When the Uhland schools closed down, basketball was no longer played there, but the dancing has never stopped. A four lane, nine pin bowling alley was added on in 1932. |
